Monthly Favourites: August

I know everyone says it but I literally cannot believe how quickly this year has gone. Since June, I feel like this second half of the year has really challenged me and has forced me to think about things I never wanted to face. At the end of June/start of July, my mental health had taken a dip and in general I wasn't doing well. Now we are at the end of August and I sort of feel like I am back on track.

This month started off bad from the aftermath of the end of last month but everything seems to have regained balance. Damn you Mercury Retrograde screwing with my mojo! Since it has all sorted itself out, I have felt in a better place. I feel ready to dive back into my blog and is there a better place to start than a monthly favourites? I think not. This months favourites are all new products to me and I am equally in love with them all. Lets get into it shall we or I will literally ramble on until the end of September.

Jo Malone London - Tropical Cherimoya

I haven't spoken too much about this perfume as I came to it quite late in the game. I don't even know if Jo Malone London are still stocking it now. When this was first launched, I didn't think I had any interest in it so I bought myself a bottle of Plum Blossom instead. However whenever I went to my local counter I always picked up Tropical Cherimoya and tried it as I couldn't believe I didn't like one of the Jo Malone Blossom scents! As I kept trying the scent, the more I liked it and at the start of August I decided to buy a bottle. Typically I will buy the 100ml but as it had taken me so long to decide if I liked the scent, I decided to get the 30ml so I wasn't as committed. Turns out, the more I have worn it, the more I love it so I am considering a 100ml but I have no idea if it is too late!

I guess I should tell you a little bit about the scent itself. From the name, I would have no idea what this scent was. I had most definitely never heard of Cherimoya. The Cherimoya is actually the ingredient which emphasises the part of this fragrance I don't really like which is the creaminess. On the Jo Malone London website they describe the Cherimoya, 'adds a milky fruity note with a grainy flesh effect, reminiscent of pear.' It is the milky note that I'm really not sold on, the rest of the notes are easily some of my favourites: Pear, Bergamot, Passion Fruit and Tonka Bean. All of these notes feature in some of my favourite perfumes and when I found this out I was rather surprised I initially didn't like it. However I had only previously tested it on the cards they provide in store rather than on my skin and once it has warmed up and adjusted, I get more of the Passion Fruit and the Vanilla from the Tonka Bean. This scent is quite fruity and I would say it was perfect for a hot day. As we are now leaving Summer behind us, I think this perfume will go into hibernation until it is ready to come out again next year. If you do see this in store I suggest stopping and giving it a smell; also do let me know as I would actually like to buy the bigger bottle but don't know if I can.

Charlotte Tilbury - Filmstar Bronze and Glow

The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette was one of the many products featured on my Beauty Wishlist for 2018. If you couldn't tell by the fact that this has made it to my favourites, I was not left disappointed by this product. My expectations for this palette were super high as I had seen so many people rave about it and as you will find out in my blog post dedicated to the Bronze and Glow palette I had been eyeing this up for a long old time.

Everything about this palette is beautiful: the packaging and the product itself. I have the Light/Medium palette but in general my skintone is definitely light. Personally I don't think this is that dark so I do wonder how anyone with a bit of tan would be able to to use the sculpt shade. Luckily it works wonders on my skin and it helps to make me look less like a football and more like I have actual bone structure. The highlight is the true champion in this product! The highlight is a soft vanilla with a subtle amount of golden sheen which blends into the skin seamlessly. I normally like something more pink toned but this is literally perfect, especially with the sculpt shade. The powders are really finely milled which makes them really easy to work with and you do not need to be a contour wizard to use it. Despite a £49 price tag, this was worth it.

Rodial - Dragons Blood Hyaluronic Tonic

Moving on to skincare, I actually have two skincare faves this month. I'll start with the one I've been using the most which is the Rodial Dragons Blood Hyaluronic Tonic. I actually received this as part of the ASOS Travel Essentials Box and I have been loving it ever since. I've always loved a good facial spray; previously I have used MAC Fix + for years and more recently I swapped to the Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray but they have both been topped by the Rodial one. In terms of hydration, I really do not think these sprays do much, I just like them for refreshment post cleanse and when it is hot, they are amazing to keep in the fridge.

Not only does the Rodial one have an incredibly refreshing scent but it has the most even spritz out of the three different sprays. This might sound super silly but it is ultra fine so you don't get one massive droplet which ruins your makeup and it has a very even coverage of my face. I actually find the Mario Badescu spray is not fine enough for my liking. I adore MAC Fix + but the Rodial one is my winner which is the reason it features in this months favourites.

Garnier - Orange Oil and Hyaluronic Acid Eye Mask

One product that I believe has been missing from the drugstore market for too long is under eye mask patches. I first saw this style of mask in Sephora a few years ago when sheet masks really caught on. The only brands who created them in the UK were high end brands like Estee Lauder. The Estee Lauder ones look amazing but at £10 for just one pair, I could never justify such a purchase. Slowly a couple of brands started to launch cheaper alternatives like the Soap and Glory Patches I always rave about and I believe Yes To create some as well but finally there is a drugstore version which I love just as much as the Sephora ones and they come from Garnier. They have launched two versions but I love the Hyaluronic Acid and Orange Oil Eye Masks.

The Garnier masks are a similar concept to the Sephora patches, same shape but a lot bigger. These literally take up half my face. The Garnier eye mask have quite a large amount of serum so they can slip a little bit but I love how refreshing these masks are and the results they give. On the wrapper these say they have a -4 cooling effect and they most certainly do. These help my under eyes when they are slightly puffy, which is all the time as I am permanently tired, and it is also the best feeling on a hot day. Once I've used these I look less tired and my eye area feels hydrated. Obviously I use a cream everyday but sometimes my eyes need that extra bit of help.

These have been on offer all month in Superdrug, so they are £1.99 at the moment. Normally they are only £2.99 anyway so they are currently the cheapest eye masks I've found, and they are also some of the best. They are currently an exclusive to Superdrug so I am stocking up on them whenever I see some because in my local store they spend a lot of time sold out. If you are interested in getting some, I suggest you get some ASAP because I do not know when the offer ends. I've tried all of the new Garnier masks and I will be doing a full review on them in the not too distant future.

The Body Shop - Almond Milk Body Yogurt

The start of the month was a very hard time for me, I had completely run out of my body cream. I am still tanning so my body needs to be hydrated regularly or my skin starts to resemble that of a dragon. As I didn't want to spend £52 on a Jo Malone London Body Creme, I decided to try something new and for once this sense of adventure worked in my favour. I ended up trying The Body Shop - Body Yogurt in the Almond Milk scent and I instantly loved it.

This is very different to your traditional cream as it isn't thick at all but it does leave your skin feeling hydrated. Personally I think this has more of a gel texture so it just melts into the skin without leaving any residue. Not only has it kept my skin hydrated but as it is a gel like formula, it is also very cooling. I don't know if you can tell but I have been loving cooling products this month. The effects of the Body Yogurt are amazing and so is the scent. I had smelt the Almond Milk range before but I had never used it and now I want more from the range. I feel like it is a very comforting scent so this makes it perfect for use before bed. I did write a whole post on this which I will link here if you want to find out more: The Body Shop: Body Yogurt.

I feel like compared to some of my other favourites, this has been quite short, I could be wrong but I did only feature 5 products and in recent months I have been featuring more. All of these products suggest to me that maybe I am still holding on to that little bit of Summer with all of the cooling products I have been using. In reality as we move into September, we are that one step closer to Autumn and then it is basically Christmas, there I said it, can you tell I am already excited!

This month I've had a bit of a break from blogging and I've cut down to only posting twice a week. I have been so busy and I haven't been able to handle my time properly but hopefully I should be back to regular scheduling from now on. Thanks for being patient with me!
