Best of Brushes | Base Brushes

Make up brushes are something I'm often asked about. What are my favourites? What would I recommend for the eyes/cheeks/face? Do you need to spend a lot for a good quality brush? What's the best brand? Yup, a lot of questions. I've decided to do a bit of a mini series on my favourite base, cheek and eye brushes to talk about what I feel is the best-of-the-best

Before I get into my favourite base brushes (so we're talking foundation, concealer and mineral foundation/powder), I just want to make a few things clear. Some of the brushes in my collection are expensive, some are ridiculously cheap. I don't believe in judging the effectiveness of a brush by the price which is why you'll find such a diverse range in my collection. Please also also note that what works well for me might not work well for you.  Unfortunately brushes aren't a one-size-fits-all type of affair.

With all that said, let's get into it!

I have dabbled into paddle foundation brushes (paint brushes, if you will) and I really don't like them. There are a lot of buffing brushes available at the moment. Some are quite dense, others quite sparse. It all depends on what you like, really. I can't go past the Abbamart Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush. This brush is an exact dupe for the Sigma F80 and I absolutely love it. It's a dense brush that makes applying any foundation a breeze and I love the way it buffs the product into the skin. You can get this brush here for $9.50.

Up until quite recently I was quite happy to apply my concealer with my fingers and buff it in with whatever brush I was using to apply my foundation. It's not the most high tech or hygienic solution, I know, but it did the job. I picked up the Models Prefer Airbrush Concealer Brush on a whim, however, and it's totally revolutionised my application of concealer. There is something about this brush that honestly gives the product an airbrushed appearance. Magic! You can buy this brush from Priceline stores for $12.99.

I've become quite a mineral foundation girl of late. Before, when I was setting my foundation with a pressed powder, the Real Techniques Multi Task Brush did the job quite nicely. For the past few months I've been loving setting my foundation with the bareMinerals Matte spf15 Foundation and the Abbamart Natural Blunt Buffing Brush is the perfect brush to do it with. The natural fibres of this brush pick up a great amount of product and assist in blending it seamlessly into the skin without disturbing the liquid foundation underneath. Perfection! You can get this brush here for $7.00.

I have so many brushes in my collection and, yes, I do use other but above are the brushes that I keep going back to, time and time again. Stay tuned you're interested in seeing what cheek brushes I continue to reach for.
